The Australian import, Jhye Richardson explains the advice he received from Anil Kumble about his price tag.

Jhye Richardson was bought in by Punjab Kings for a huge amount of INR 14 crores in the IPL 2021 auction. The Australian pacer was recently in a great touch that is why PK invested an astronomical sum in him.

The 24-year-old has opened up about the advice he received from the Head Coach of PBKS, Anil Kumble. Richardson stated that he is feeling himself under severe pressure due to such a huge price tag.

When he went to Anil Kumble for advice to lower his pressure, the Head Coach said that he was not bought in for the skills he used on the cricket field.

The Australian pacer said that these words from Anil Kumble gave him relief. He also added that Kumble knew about his capabilities.

“I started putting pressure on myself (thinking about the price tag). But I had a good conversation with Anil yesterday, and he said, you know, ‘we didn’t pick you up for the price tag; we just picked you up for your services and what you do on the cricket field.’ For me, that was important to hear, to know that the coach has picked me up for a reason and knows what I’m capable of,”

said Richardson as quoted by Times of India.

‘The key to my game is to just go out and have fun’

Jhye Richardson said that from now he will not worry about his price tag as he is cleared that his Head Coach wants him to perform the best of him and that is what matters.

The Punjab Kings pacer further revealed that he will go out and have fun and he will try to give the top performance and smile before bowling. He concluded that he smiles while bowling so that he can remind others that T20 cricket is fun.

“The key to my game is to just go out and have fun. It’s easier said than done because you’re bowing to the best batsman in the world but for me, if I can just stand at the top of my mark, and smile, that is a big one for me. I started doing that (smile) during the Big Bash at the top of my mark, just to put a smile on the top there to remind myself every ball that T20 is fun,”

he concluded.

Jhye Richardson will play its first IPL match on April 12th 2021 against Rajasthan Royals.
