AB de Villiers still remains in contention to play T20 World Cup this year in India

In what will come as a massive news for cricket fans across the world and particularly those from South Africa, former captain and a T20 superstar, AB de Villiers is mulling a comeback to international cricket with the proteas side with two T20 World Cup lined up in as many years.

De Villiers, who is currently busy making bowlers in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 tournament for Royal Challengers Bangalore, is reported to have had a scheduled meeting coming up with the current South Africa coach and his former teammate Mark Boucher to discuss the same. But at the same time, de Villiers also thinks that they might be no place for him in the South African team which is going through a troubled time period I will recently lost four series on the trot across formats at the hands of Pakistan.

“We are lined up to have a chat sometime during the IPL. But yes, we’ve been talking about it already. Last year, he asked me if I would be interested. And I said, ‘absolutely’. And come the end of the IPL, we will have a look at where we are at with regards to my form and my fitness,”

ESPNCricinfo quoted de Villiers as saying on Sunday evening.

“Also, the situation with his team—he’s got to look at his guys who have been performing well over the last while. If there’s no space for me, so be it. If I can slot in there, it will be fantastic if all those things fall in place. Waiting for [the chat with] Bouchy towards the end of the IPL, and we will then plan accordingly.”

Former South Africa wicket-keeper and current head coach Boucher has already declared that there will be absolutely no egos entertained regarding the return of de Villiers to international cricket with the South African team. Boucher said if de Villiers is ‘ready and willing’, he will be selected.
