Chris Morris justified his investment by some quick power hitting at the end of match 7 between DC and RR. RR pushed the game by 3 wickets and 2 balls to spare.

The 7th match of IPL 2021 was played between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. RR get across the line, thanks to Chris Morris whose power hitting finished the game for RR with 3 wickets in hand and 2 balls to spare.

Sanju Samson led RR won the toss and asked DC to bat first. DC did not put up a great start from the top order. However, it was the skipper who added valuable 51 runs.

Other useful runs came from the debutant, Lalit Yadav and Tom Curran and reached the target of 147 in the allotted overs. Jaydev Unadkat was the top performer from RR with the ball as he picked up three wickets while conceding only 15 runs in 4 overs and awarded as man of the match.

‘Chris Morris show at last moments for RR’

Chasing such a low target, RR top order fell quickly as the deck of cards. However, the combination of David Miller 62 (43) and Chris Morris 36 (18) turned out to be a dream for fans and thus RR get across the line. Avesh Khan was the top bowling figure from DC as he picked three wickets in the match.

Losing skipper, Rishabh Pant at the post-match presentation:

The bowlers did a good job at the start, but we let them get over us in the end. We could have bowled a bit better. It’s part and parcel of the game and dew played a big role in the end. We were 15-20 runs short. But at least there is something to gain from this match, the bowlers did a great job at the start. Hopefully if something like this happens we can pull it off. In the second innings, there was much more dew, so the slower ball wasn’t stopping. So we had to something in the second innings.

Winning skipper, Sanju Samson at post-match presentation:

Had some hopes with Miller and Morris to come but to be really honest I thought that it was tough from there and I think the boys did really well to get over the line. It’s about reading the conditions. Was a bit sticky to start with. Hard lengths and mixing up with the variations was the key. That’s also our strength – three left-armers. They are slightly different from the other so we can use it in a different way. We had a chat with him, he was very confident and very clear (Sakariya). Can’t do much, was just praying inside. Always sit back and review my game. If I play that match again 100 times I would not take the single (on denying strike to Morris last time).

Player of the match, Jaydev Unadkat at post-match presentation:

Have a lot of experience now I can say of handling tough situations. Was kind of a homecoming for me. Was bowling with the kind of freedom I wanted with the new ball. Couldn’t do that last season. Had to step up this time. Didn’t get the first game so I knew the chances when they come, I have to take them. If you see the stats I think I only bowled about four-five change of pace. It was about hitting the hard lengths, hitting good lengths because it was doing a bit. Feel there was a bit of moisture. Made good use of it. Changes you as a person in whole (marriage). Feel more settled, more calmer. Nothing like coming to the ground hugging your wife and then sitting beside guys believing in you.
