Mumbai Indians (MI) defended an average total of 152 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in match 5 at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday.

Rahul Chahar registered himself as a man of the match after match-winning bowling figures (4/27) in match 5 of IPL as MI defeated KKR by 10 runs on Tuesday.

Chasing the target of 153 in 20 overs, KKR openers, Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill took the responsibility with Rana scoring the majority of runs.

The duo completed the half-century in no time soon after the conclusion of the powerplay. Both of them continued with the same charm until Rahul Chahar gave a break-through after Gill lofted the ball straight into the hands of a fielder in the 9th over.

KKR were 81/1 and Chahar struck once again and picked up the wicket of Rahul Tripathi in the 11th over.

While Rana continued to impress with another half-century in IPL, Chahar took another wicket of KKR skipper in his third over. Not finished here, the well-settled Rana also got tricked by Chahar and Quinton de Kock took the benefit of it, dismissed by stumping.

The all-rounder, Shakib Al Hassan came next but Krunal Pandya got the best of him, caught in the deep by Suryakumar Yadav in the 16th over. Krunal had a chance to pick up another wicket but he could not handle the sharp catch of Andre Russel.

The West Indian giant got another chance off Krunal as Jasprit Bumrah could not judge a long skier.

Bumrah bowled the second last over and showed all his experience of International cricket by denying the efforts of Russel and Dinesh Karthik by just giving 4 runs.

With 15 runs in the last over, Trent Boult was given the responsibility and he did it well with a mix of variations and pace, conceded only 5 runs and picked up 2 wickets.

Earlier, MI lost the toss and was asked to bat first. They added Quinton de Kock in place of Chris Lynn at the top order. However, the decision was not worth much as the left-hander departed in the second over of the match.

Suryakumar Yadav who came next started with mere aggression and hit three boundaries in the third over of Harbhajan Singh. Rohit Sharma on the other hand was quiet and MI ended their power play with 42/1.

The right-hander went on to Prasidh Krishna, hitting him 16 runs in the 18th over including a stylishly flicked maximum and he completed his half-century with a six off the bowling of Pat Cummins.

KKR needed quick wickets and that is where Shakib Al Hasan and Pat Cummins showed their experience. Both of them picked up the wickets of Suryakumar and Ishan Kishan respectively.

Rohit and Hardik Pandya added some 27 runs and Cummins struck again, this time it was the skipper who got caught while trying to slash on the offside.

KKR bowlers were impressive throughout the death bowling. Prasidh Krishna got the wicket of Hardik in the 17th over before Russell assaulted an MI batsman.

In the 18th over, Russel picked up Kieron Pollard and Marco Jansen and then bowled the final over in which he picked up three wickets to complete his maiden five-wicket haul in IPL, MI were restricted to 152 in 20 overs.

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 152 all out (Suryakumar Yadav 56, Rohit Sharma 43, Andre Russell 5/15) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 142/7 (Nitish Rana 57, Shubman Gill 33, Rahul Chahar 4/27) by 10 runs.
