Former India cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has heaped praise on ex South Africa captain and the batting backbone of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), AB de Villiers, after he played a crucial role in the opening match of the 14th edition of the worlds largest T20 cricket tournament.

“We will use a rapid 48 in a ticket chase for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Mumbai Indians in the opening match of IPL 14, as RCB recorded a narrow two wicket victory to earn a crucial advantage over the five-time title winning side Mumbai Indians”.

Chasing a modest total, RCB did have their travels along the way but AB de Villiers ensured that they did not end up on the losing side after Harshal Patel took five wickets for the first time ever against Mumbai police to help RCB start off on a winning note.

“English not my strong suit. What’s the adjective for ‘better than genius’? That’s what AB is! Really!”

Manjrekar took to Twitter after yet another superlative innings from the RCB batsman AB de Villiers.

De Villiers has been the batting mainstay for RCB in their line-upr as he has formed several crucial partnerships with their captain Virat Kohli and has played some of the most sensational walks in the history of the T20 cricket tournament which has also helped them establish himself as Mr. 360° batsman.

However, despite all the hard work that de Villiers has put in over the number of years, he has not tasted success in the form of a title victory for RCB. The closest that they went to winning the title was an IPL 2016 when they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. In the previous edition of IPL, RCB did qualify for the knockouts but could not go all the way.
