Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed declined an opportunity to play for Multan Sultans in the ongoing Pakistan Super League to focus on his preparation for the upcoming home series against England.
According to Cricbuzz, Taskin was offered a three-game contract by Multan Sultans but the right-arm pacer turned the offer down because he preferred to get fully fit before facing the Englishmen.
“They (Multan Sultans) wanted me for three matches. Initially, they wanted me from February 17 for three matches and afterward, I spoke with the physio and he said I can go but it would be better if I do a bit more training (to recover fully from the injury),”
Taskin told Cricbuzz on Saturday.
“Now I am fine and I could have gone and played as well but after I spoke with the physio I did not inform the board (about the offer) because I wanted to train well before the important series (against England),”
“It’s a matter of a couple of matches but by playing there (for Multan Sultans) if I has missed the upcoming series (against England) it would have looked bad. And because I am recovering from an injury I must get fully fit and so I don’t have any regrets about missing it (PSL).”
Taskin expressed that he doesn’t regret skipping the Indian Premier League last year in favor of playing for Bangladesh against South Africa.
The BCB, therefore, declined to give him a letter of support for IPL but listened to the advice of the former skipper Mashrafee bin Mortaza who asked that Taskin should be compensated for missing the IPL.
“The board had given me remuneration (for refusing the IPL offer last year) and I don’t have any regrets. Playing in the national team is my main goal,”
said Taskin.
“In the national team if I can do well consistently today or tomorrow there will be an opportunity (to play foreign T20 leagues) because at the end of the day, we all work hard for playing in the national team and if that goes well eventually I will play in the franchise-based T20 competition abroad,”
he added.
