Jasprit Bumrah set to make comeback for India during Ireland tour
It is a news that will bring smiles back on the face of Indian cricket team fans. Indian cricket star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make his international comeback as he has completely recovered from back surgery due to stress fracture which he had earlier this year in New Zealand.
The right-arm fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has trained continuously and followed a disciplined routine at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, and according to the secretary of the board of control for cricket in India, Jay Shah, the fast bowler is completely ready to make a comeback for the Indian cricket team.
Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be a part of the Indian team which will tour Ireland for three T20 internationals on August 18, 20 and 23. It is likely that the squad for the tour of Ireland will be selected this week.
“Bumrah is totally fit and he may go to Ireland,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah was quoted by the Indian media as saying.
Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action for more than 10 months now as he underwent a surgery on his back in March this year and has not played since the home series against Australia last September.
As per the original timeline which was formed by the National Cricket Academy staff in Bangalore, Bumrah was expected to be returning sometime during the Asia Cup which will start on August 30, but his availability for the tour of Ireland gives the Indian team a chance to check his fitness and readiness for international cricket, and also for the bowler to gain some momentum.
According to a report in ESPNcricinfo, there was a hint by the BCCI given last week when they issued a release saying that Jasprit Bumrah was bowling in full intensity at the NCA in Bangalore, having started his rehab in April this year while the other players and teams are busy with international cricket as well as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
The five-time champions of the IPL, Mumbai Indians said it several times that they were missing their main fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah but managed to do well as they reached qualifier two of the knockout stage of IPL 2023 competition.
It will be important for Jasprit Bumrah, who has been bowling in full intensity, to gain some momentum with white ball cricket as there is a huge assignment in the form of the ODI World Cup lined up ahead for the Indian cricket team. India will be hosting the ODI World Cup for the first time since 2011, which was also the last time they had won the 50 over ICC competition under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
The 50 over World Cup in India this year will be held from October 5 to November 19, with Ahmedabad hosting the all-important match between India and Pakistan as well as the final of the mega tournament.
