Jamie Siddons, Bangladesh’s batting coach, said that they are not worried over the side’s inability to reach the 200-mark in the shortest format. He also expressed that 170-180 could be defended in the ongoing T20 World Cup.

“I think there was one score of 200 in New Zealand (tri-series), so we’re not concerned over making 200,”

Jamie told reporters when he was asked whether they can do well without getting 200 plus scores on the board.

“If we can keep making 160-170, with our bowling attack, we will win more games than we lose. I don’t think we’re going to need 200 here. You won’t need 200 tomorrow or at the World Cup very often. 180 or 170 are good scores. If we make 170, we are very happy. Our bowling attack will keep them to 170. Have a look at Big Bash average scores, not 200. Very very very rare,”

he added.

Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan missed the optional training session on Sunday. While pace bowlers were seen batting under the direction of Siddons after they finished their bowling drills.

“We have a separate net for target bowling and things like that; bowling yorkers and slowers and working on their skills, a bit like the batsmen when they play underarms and throwdowns. They had a long flight yesterday, so didn’t want to work them too hard.

“Well, they had a good bat. Lately, they (lower-order batsmen) haven’t had to bat, with the top-order doing well up till the 10th over. We got to keep working on them because at some point we are going to need them.”

Soumya and Shoriful Islam have been added to the T20 World Cup squad, with the duo replacing Sabbir Rahman and Mohammad Saifuddin. However, Soumya and Shoriful were named as reserves.

Bangladesh technical consultant Sridharan Sriram was seen working with Soumya at the nets for a considerable amount of time.

“We had seventeen players and we had to pick fifteen and we made the decision we thought was best for the team. Soumya hasn’t made the fifties or sixties but so didn’t Sabbir, so we’re hoping that once these next two practice matches and the World Cup come along, everyone is in good form.

“We will see the next two games and we will get a lot closer to the final batting order. Having a team that hasn’t won a lot in T20s, we’re still looking for the best mix and the best batting spots, so we’re getting very close. In our minds, we think we’re right but we need someone to step up and make a big score.

“We’ve brought in some new players that haven’t been in the team for a while as you probably know. So they are finding that it will take a little bit of time to get up to speed with international cricket again but today is an example of how they are going and they are going well. Expect to see some scores from the top order very soon,”

he noted.
