Bangladesh bowling Coach Allan Donald expressed on Wednesday that they might make a few changes in their World Cup squad. The cut-off date for changing the World Cup squad is October 14.
Cricbuzz understands that team management will assemble tomorrow (October 13) after their last match against Pakistan in the ongoing tri-series to make a final call regarding their squad.
However, it feels that Soumya Sarkar and Shoriful Islam, the two reserves, are likely to be included in the squad.
“I think there might be a chance that (15-member World Cup squad) could be changed and that is probably why they brought two extra guys with and we have that time, don’t we? We have few more days to sort that out before we depart for Australia,”Donald told reporters at Christchurch on Wednesday.
Bangladesh played three different opening pairs in their three matches in the ongoing tri-series as they settled on make-shift opener Mehedy Hasan and Sabbir Rahman in their opening game against Pakistan while decided to open with Mehedy and regular opener Nazmul Hossain in their next against New Zealand.
“Sriram is looking at a lot of combinations where he feels he needs to be accurate and especially tomorrow to have one more last look and see what he needs to do and find the right people to go and do their job so it’s never an easy thing. It’s a contrast trust me as a coach sitting up there you are never sure what is the right combination,”Donald said.
“I am pretty sure that by now he would have in his mind who would be the right guys. A lot of people saying for how much longer can you (continue) trial and error or get it right or get it wrong. You have to go through that process to make sure you are settled. So as a head coach, I am pretty sure he would be very close to where he wants to be,”he said.
“I know deep down it’s not an easy job and you want to be dead right and be confident about who you select and that’s what makes picking the World Cup team rather tricky. That’s not just for us, it goes for every team around the world,”he said.
Talking of his bowlers, Donald said he wanted them to be more proactive.
“We went for 65 off the last few overs. It’s still something that is punching us in the gut a little bit more. So we can be a lot more proactive in breaking that down a little bit and not get ahead of ourselves, something I thought Trent Boult did exceptionally well when Shakib was batting. He managed to land some fantastic yorkers,”he said.
“Just got to be clinical in all areas. We have been speaking for a long time now, talking about Twenty20 cricket and all the facets we want to have with a little bit more control and I would like to be a bit more clinical and accurate, especially in the pressure situation especially bowling at the death. I thought Ebadat and Shoriful were good today but I would love a bit more to be precise in pressure situations tomorrow (against Pakistan),”he concluded.
