England trounces Bangladesh 2-1 in a 3-match ODI series: Player ratings for the visitors
England must be satisfied with their series victory over Bangladesh in the sub-continent. Jos Buttler & Co. started their campaign with a 3-wicket victory in Dhaka, followed by a stupendous win at the same stadium by 132 runs.
The hosts Bangladesh, on the other hand, culminated the series with a significant victory in the final encounter, thanks to Shakib Al Hasan for his all-round performance. The Tigers won the battle by 50 runs to give their fans something to cheer about.
Let us take a glance at the performances of England players in the ODI series:
Top Order
Jason Roy (8.5/10): His sensational innings in the 2nd ODI made sure that England won’t be dependent on the final ODI for the decider. Roy hammered 132 runs with the help of 18 elegant boundaries and one maximum that helped the visitors post 326 on the board.
The right-hander, however, failed in the other two innings but still finished the series with the top run-getter from both sides. His magnificent innings helped him win the player of the match award in the 2nd match.
Philip Salt (3/10): It was a forgettable series for Salt as he could only score 54 runs in three games. After failing in the first two matches, Salt showed some promise in the final encounter by giving a good start to his side but the right-hander couldn’t help his side win the battle. He got out off Shakib on 35 runs in the last ODI that took place in Chattogram.
Salt must get chances in the future keeping in mind he is still new to international cricket. Overall, it would be a good learning experience for him going forward.
Dawid Malan (8.5/10): Dawid Malan is currently one of the finest players in the England side with some remarkable shows over the years. He has a great series as the southpaw slammed a marvellous unbeaten century in the opening game that took his team across the line.
Malan scored 114* and batted till the last moment by not taking any risk. His innings was full of patience as it came in 145 balls with a strike rate of under 80. But, the left-hander was fabulous as his innings progressed, as he hammered eight boundaries and four maximums in the innings. Malan couldn’t score much in the other two games which were fine considering his heroics in the beginning.
Middle Order
James Vince (3/10): Just like Philip Salt, Vince too had a series to forget with just 49 runs in three matches. He batted well in the final ODI but couldn’t take his side home. The right-hander scored 38 in the last match and was looking in good touch before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan.
James Vince is a delight if he is in full flow and he would like to come back in form in the next series to prove his critics wrong.
Jos Buttler (7/10): Jos Buttler is one of the world’s best ODI players right now and showed in this series why he is a top player. Buttler scored 11 runs in three matches with an average of 37. He played a handy innings of 76 off just 64 balls in the 2nd ODI to put England on top.
Buttler might have flopped in the other two games with the bat but his captaincy can’t be ignored. He was brilliant in taking decisions in the first and second ODIs that helped England win a memorable series in Bangladesh.
All-Rounders
Will Jacks (4/10): Batting all-rounder Will Jacks couldn’t perform really well in the two games he played in the series. It was his debut ODI series where he struggled a bit in batting whereas he was economical with his off-breaks. In the two games he played in the series, Jacks scored 27 runs and took only one wicket.
Sam Curran (8.5/10): Sam Curran had a remarkable ODI series with 56 quick runs in the two matches he played. He was not a part of the first ODI but came back with a bang by scoring a quickfire 33 off just 19 deliveries. His innings helped England go past 300 in the second ODI.
He didn’t only perform with the bat but also proved to be unplayable for Bangladeshis. The left-arm fast-medium bowler picked up 6 wickets in just two matches to take all the pressure off in the beginning. His 4 for 29 runs in the 2nd game will be remembered as one of the finest spells in Bangladesh.
Moeen Ali (5/10): Moeen Ali has always been a top player when it comes to limited-overs cricket but the recently concluded series did not go his way. Moeen was ordinary with the bat as he scored 58 runs in three matches with the highest one coming in the second ODI where he scored 42 off 35 balls.
The off-break bowler picked up three wickets in the series which was a below-average performance for a bowler like Moeen. The all-rounder would look to come back in form with some good performance in future.
Chris Woakes (4/10): England’s bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes has been ordinary in the series with just 2 wickets in two games. The pace battery is a much better bowler than this performance. Woakes also scored 41 runs with an average of around 21 with the help of just three boundaries.
Bowlers
Adil Rashid (9/10): With 8 wickets in the entire series, Adil Rashid bagged the player of the series award for his splendid effort. Rashid was remarkable in all three games as he grabbed wickets throughout. The leg-break bowler was unplayable for many of the Bangladesh batsmen.
He stunned the whole middle-order with four wickets in the second ODI including Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Now, he would look forward to continuing his dominance in the upcoming series.
Jofra Archer (7/10): It was a good comeback from Jofra Archer as he picked up 5 wickets in the two games he was a part of. Archer came after a long injury and giving this kind of performance is a good sign for England going forward.
Now, fans are excited to see Archer in the Indian Premier League as he missed out on the previous edition due to injury. Star-studded Mumbai Indians will be hoping for a remarkable show from the dangerous Archer in the likely absence of Jasprit Bumrah.
Mark Wood (4/10): Mark Wood is one of the fastest bowlers we have in the world right now. He has been a regular member of the team in limited overs cricket with his good show on most occasions. However, Wood was not at his best this time with just two wickets in as many matches.
Now, Wood is an important asset for England keeping in mind the World Cup later this year. The fast bowler would like to bring back his lost form in the upcoming series.
