Chennai Super Kings thrashed Delhi Capitals by a huge margin on Sunday night

Devon Conway’s 87 and a superb 3-wicket haul for Moeen Ali powered Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a massive 91-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Match No 55 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 tournament on Sunday night.

In the contest played at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday night, Chennai Super Kings once again displayed why they should never be written off with a perfect all-round display of dominating cricket.

Chennai Super Kings posted a huge total of 208/6 in their first innings, powered by an 87 from their New Zealand opener Devon Conway while the others such as Ruturaj Gaikwad (41), Shivam Dube (32) and MS Dhoni (21*) playing important roles in the middle with the bat.

In their reply, Delhi Capitals were bowled out for a poor 117 in 17.4 overs with their Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh top scoring with 25, captain Rishabh Pant making 21, Shardul Thakur contributing with 24 and their run machine in David Warner having an off-day, scoring 19.

It all began with CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway ripping the Delhi bowling apart, adding 110 runs for the first wicket in 11 overs before they were separated. While Ruturaj Gaikwad was slightly slow to begin with, Devon Conway attacked right from the start to make 87 from 49 balls with 7 fours and 5 sixes.

Ruturaj Gaikwad made 41 from 33 balls with 4 fours and 1 six, whereas Shivam Dube showed form with the bat making 32 from only 19 balls with 2 sixes and as many fours.

While the other CSK batsmen could not make most of the opportunity, MS Dhoni did well towards the end of the innings to make 21 not out from only 8 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 1 four. Moeen Ali made 9, Robin Uthappa was out for a first-ball duck and Ambati Rayudu made 5.

For Delhi Capitals, Khaleel Ahmed was the most impressive with the ball taking 2/28 from his 4 overs while Anrich Nortje was among wickets, but a little expensive at 3/42 from his 4 overs. Mitchell Marsh also took one wicket.

Chennai Super Kings bowlers produced an all-round show, with Moeen Ali returning with 4-0-13-3 as he dismissed Mitchell Marsh, Rishabh Pant and Ripal Patel. CSK bowler Simarjeet Singh chipped in with 2/27 from his 4 overs, Dwayne Bravo took 2/24 from 2.4 overs and Mukesh Choudhary took 2/22 from 3 overs. Maheesh Theekshana took 1/29 from 4 overs as well.
