Peter Siddle his back with Victoria

After committing to Victoria for a two-year period, Peter Siddle will conclude his domestic career there. This is where it all started for him.

The 38-year-old Peter Siddle made his Victoria debut in 2005. In 2008, he finally capitalized on his success in his home state by earning his first Test cap.

Throughout his time with the national team, which included 67 Tests and 20 ODIs, he continued to represent Victoria. In 2019, he announced his retirement from international competition.

In the summer of 2021–2022, Siddle played for the Tigers and was voted a co-winner of the Ricky Ponting Medal as the team’s greatest cricketer, making him a wise acquisition for Tasmania for the 2020–21 season.

Siddle toyed with the idea of leaving domestic cricket after the most recent summer, but he will continue for at least another two years, by which time he will be 40.

“To have a player of Peter Siddle’s calibre and experience returning to support a young fast-bowling group is exciting. He’ll be a great mentor for all of them,” said Cricket Victoria’s head of male cricket David Hussey.

“Peter is a very passionate Victorian and it’s fantastic that he’s able to finish his career at home.”

Whether Siddle will return for a seventh summer has not yet been announced by Adelaide Strikers.

For Strikers recently, the fast has been in superb form; in particular, he was elected captain of the BBL’s team of the tournament during the 2021–22 season.

Victoria has completed their list of contracts, and as a reward for their breakout batter Ashley Chandrasinghe’s outstanding summer debut, they have upgraded him from a rookie deal. On his Sheffield Shield debut in October, Chandrasinghe made a big impression with an unbeatable 119.

A full contract is also given to Campbell Kellaway, another young top-order batsman who participated in the Sheffield Shield championship game.

However, less than a year after he came dangerously close to rejoining the Test team in Sri Lanka, they cut left-arm spinner Jon Holland after 14 summers on the contract list.

“In any contracting process there are always difficult decisions and I’d like to thank all the players who are departing our program for their commitment to Victorian cricket,”

Hussey said.

“It would be remiss of me to not make a special mention of Jon Holland and Aaron Finch who have both made enormous contributions to our program, to our squads and to the success Victoria has enjoyed throughout their very successful careers. They both hold a special place in this era of Victorian cricket.”

Tom Rogers, a batter for the Melbourne Stars in the most recent BBL, has been signed. Glenn Maxwell, who was injured, was replaced by Rogers.

In contrast to fellow young hitter MacKenzie Harvey, who has been delisted, Jake Fraser-McGurk is relocating to South Australia.
