4 Uncapped players who might become stars in IPL 2022
Uncapped players have always been one of the attractions at the IPL auction and the tournament as well. Several uncapped players received high bids during the mega auction ahead of the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League.
These players, more often than not, have lit up the IPL with their stellar performances. Teams will expect these players to step up when given the opportunity. They will also be eager to showcase their talent at one of the biggest stages in the world when they don a jersey to play in the high-profile T20 league.
Ahead of IPL 2022, here are four players who have the potential to become stars
#4 Avesh Khan (Lucknow Super Giants)
Avesh Khan created history by becoming the highest-paid uncapped player in the history of the IPL, grabbing a handsome bid of a whopping INR 10 crores by the Lucknow Super Giants. Avesh was the second-highest wicket-taker in the 2021 season with 24 wickets to his name, the highest for the Delhi Capitals in the season.
While it was a breakthrough season, Avesh Khan will have to justify his massive price tag this season and establish himself as a consistent performer.
Playing for Madhya Pradesh, he had a stellar domestic season as well, with top spells of 3/6 against Bihar and 3/23 against Railways in the Vijay Hazare trophy. Avesh is expected to be the lead Indian pacer for Lucknow and another great season can certainly open doors for this young pacer on the international front.
#3 Shahrukh Khan (Punjab Kings)
Shahrukh Khan is termed as one of the best finishers in the short format of the game at present. His brilliant performance in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Tamil Nadu was a testimony to his skills with the bat down the order.
The explosive right-handed batter smashed a 21-ball 42 to help Tamil Nadu clinch the title. Shahrukh Khan played for Punjab Kings in the previous season as well.
He had a few great performances and hence, was brought back by the side for a massive INR 9 crore bid at the auction this time around. He will be an integral part of Punjab’s batting line-up this season. The Tamil Nadu batter is certainly capable of leaving a bigger and better impact than what he did in the previous season. This season brings him the opportunity to establish himself as a strong and consistent finisher in the T20 format.
#2 Dewald Brevis (Mumbai Indians)
Dewald Brevis, the young South African sensation, already made headlines during the recently concluded ICC U19 World Cup. He put up stellar and consistent performances with the bat throughout the season.
Brevis ended as the leading run-scorer in the tournament with 506 runs breaking Shikhar Dhawan’s record for the most runs scored in a single edition of the U19 World Cup. He notched up two centuries and three half-centuries.
The stylish right-hander was brought by Mumbai Indians for a bid of INR 3 Crore at the auction this year. Being included in the most successful IPL franchise, Brevis can certainly develop and better his skills early in his career and brings in a lot of expectations, and can be one of the emerging talents from this season.
#1 Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
Umran Malik raised a lot of eyebrows with his raw pace during the 2021 IPL edition. The speedster made an impact clocking over 140kmph consistently during his limited opportunities. He also set the record for the fastest delivery of the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore, clocking 153 Kmph.
The 22-year-old pacer from Jammu & Kashmir was retained by Sunrisers ahead of the IPL 2022 auction for INR 4 crores. Picking up two wickets in three games, he had a decent showing in his debut season.
However, there is a lot more left to be seen of the young speed gun, assuming he will be a regular feature in the side this season. From a young pacer with enough potential and talent, Malik can climb the ladder to being a star by putting up consistent performances with the ball this time around emerging as one of the top pacers of the league.
