Badminton World Federation is actively seeking for Para-Badminton to restart as soon as possible.

As you know, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all sporting events are affected. It has also led to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games’ postponement and several international Para badminton tournaments and continental championships.

The challenges posed by the pandemic will likely persist until 2021, which will require a change in the originally planned schedule of tournaments postponed by the BWF. It also meant a postponement of starting the new world Para badminton circuit until at least 2022.

“The BWF is not yet able to confirm what the next year will look like. But I would like to assure all stakeholders, especially the Para badminton player community, that we are looking for opportunities for players to compete at new”

BWF General Secretary Thomas Lund

Reinforced precautionary measures will be put in place to ensure players’ well-being and safety, staff, and officials. It includes the likelihood of the tournament being held behind closed doors without spectators.

Among the tournaments being considered are the latest Tokyo Paralympic Games qualifier and other world ranking tournaments to help players perform at their best at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games and World Championships BWF 2021 Para badminton world.

The world rankings for Para badminton have been halted. A plan to unfreeze the rankings will be communicated once the tournament schedule is better understood in 2021 and beyond.
