All England Open Badminton Championships Semi-final Roundup: Jolly/Gopichand knocked out while Li Shifeng reached the final in Men’s Singles
India’s last hope in the form of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand ended as the pair got eliminated in the semifinals of the All England Open. They were beaten by the South Korean pair of Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee 10-21, 10-21. Earlier in the tournament, the likes of Lakshya Sen, Srikanth Kidambi, PV Sindhu etc. were eliminated before giving any tough fight.
On the other hand, Akane Yamaguchi, who was the contender for the title, lost her semis clash against Chen Yufei. The final of the Women’s singles will be played between Chen Yufei and AN Se Yong. Let us take a look at the Semifinal matches:
Men’s Singles
Lee Zii Jia vs Shi Yuqi
It was a one-sided semifinal where the Chinese shuttler won in the end by 21-19, 21-13. The final of the Men’s singles now will be played between Shi Yuqi and Li Shifeng.
Li Shifeng vs Anders Antonsen
It was a tight affair which went to the third game but it was Shifeng who made it to the finals. Antonsen gave his everything to win the match but some tough luck did not allow him to take further part in the tournament. Now, Shifeng will play for the All England Open trophy against his countryman Shi Yuqi.
Women’s Singles
Akane Yamaguchi vs Chen Yufei
It was a terrible outing for the Japanese this time as clearly there was a lack of intent. After showing some fight in the first game, the Japanese shuttler was terrible with her mindset, hence finishing the match 17-21, 8-21. Chen Yufei will play for the title now against AN Se Yong.
Tai Tzu-ying vs AN Se Yong
It was a superb knockout game between the two with the South Korean pair having the last laugh in the end. She defeated Tai 17-21, 21-19 and 24-22 to clinch victory and move to the mega finale. Now, she is set to compete against Chen Yufei for the All England Open title.
Women’s Doubles
Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand vs Baek Ha-na/Lee So-hee
The Indian duo of Jolly and Gopichand were playing beautifully in the tournament before the South Korean pair stunned them in the semis. The champion pair lost the battle by 10-21, 10-21 to make an exit. On the other hand, Baek and Lee would now face their countrymates Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong in the final of the Women’s doubles.

Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan vs Wang Chang/Liang Weikeng
It was a tremendous display by both pairs as the game went down to the wire with the scores of 21-15, 19-21 and 29-27 in favour of the Indonesian pair. Now, it is going to be an Indonesian derby in the final with Muhammad Rian Ardianto and Fajar Alfian.
Kim So-yeong/Kong Hee-yong vs Zhang Shuxian/Zheng Yu
The South Korean pair of Kim and Kong defeated the Chinese duo of Shuxian and Yu by 21-14, 25-23 to enter the final of the Women’s doubles. Now, they are set to play against their own country mates Baek Ha-na and Lee So-hee for the title clash.
